September 2009: Announcing 15 VALUE (Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education) Rubrics Release! The Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) has released the final versions of all 15 VALUE rubrics!!! From the American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Web site
As part of the VALUE project, teams of faculty and other academic and student affairs professionals engaged in an iterative process over eighteen months wherein they gathered, analyzed, synthesized, and then drafted institutional level rubrics (and related materials) for 15 of the AAC&U Essential Learning Outcomes>> http://www.aacu.org/leap/vision.cfm The VALUE rubrics reflect faculty expectations for essential learning across the nation regardless of type of institution, mission, size or location. In several cases, outcomes that AAC&U paired in the Essential Learning Outcomes (e.g., written and oral communication) have been separated with the intent of developing individual VALUE rubrics for each. The VALUE initiative (Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education) was funded for two years and in that time fifteen rubrics were created, tested and revised extensively with the help of over 100 rubric development team volunteers and over 100 testing campuses. You can find pdfs of them at http://www.aacu.org/value/rubrics/index.cfm where you will soon find word and online versions as well. The Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system was a VALUE Partner during the 2-year project. Several of our campuses were using AAC&U meta-rubrics to assess local undergraduate e-portfolios or other student work and providing general feedback on usefulness while facilitating rapid piloting and development of the rubrics. Additional information about the e-portfolio rubric project can be found online at http://www.aacu.org/value/project_description.cfm with related links to other significant resources. The first discussion item is raised by Stephen Spangehl: "We are working with the Minnesota State College and University system (MnSCU) to develop software that everyone can use to post and maintain their AQIP Systems Portfolios. We would like to involve anyone who is interested in this discussion -- what should software do? what should the resulting Portfolio look like on the web? are there technical limitations we should consider? has anyone already begun a similar project?"
